2022 Year in Review

56 Year History

Lylewood Chistian Camp completed its 56th year of operation in 2022.   Many of those currently involved with Lylewood never knew the individuals who originally dreamed of and planned for a rural Bible camp for youth, but those who did know Arch and Edwina Lyle still cherish their memory.   Through the years, Lylewood’s reach and influence on young people has continued to grow.  We hope that Lylewood’s original benefactors and countless others who have helped to sustain the camp’s mission over all these years would be happy to know their efforts have continued to help youth in this area grow in the Christian faith.

Campers

Campers:  In 2022, Lylewood served 299 campers in four retreat weekends and three summer camp weeks.   At least 143 volunteers worked as directors, counselors, cooks, nurses, maintenance, and other roles during the year.   We are so grateful for all of those who invested their talent to continue this purposeful work.  We are thankful to all the campers who chose to come to Lylewood amongst many other activity choices that our youth have these days.

Improvements:  For the last few years, we’ve attempted to persistently address some deferred maintenance and/or make needed improvements.   This year, we completed the second phase installation of the stone siding and window replacements on George Shelton Hall and the installation of a new kitchen stove.   The generosity of our financial donors make this possible.

Financial Support:  Lylewood is volunteer operated and majority donation supported.    Lylewood has a history of making sure that no camper is turned away for lack of ability to pay camper registration fees.  In addition to camp operations cost, we must upkeep the various buildings and grounds needs.

7th Annual Pick’n and Rib dinner:  Our next big event is the Annual Pick’n and Ribs dinner on Saturday, March 4th, 2023.  This event provides the majority of our annual financial support.  Thanks in advance for your support of this event.   We also have some volunteer spots left to fill.

The “Why”

There is much evidence supporting the fact that the best time in life to lay faith foundations is during our young developing years.   Lylewood attempts to reinforce or in some cases introduce young campers to the Christian teaching found in the Holy Bible.  Over the years, Lylewood has often been an influence or even the place of a camper’s decision to follow Christ and put Him on in baptism.

Our late friend and long-time Lylewood board member George Shelton, once stated that “We measure Lylewood’s success with love shared, memories made and faith shared.”   Lyewood now has a 56 year history of FAITH, FRIENDSHIP and FUN.  With God’s blessing, Lylewood will continue to serve the people of our community, area churches, and surrounding counties.   We ask for your prayers and support.

If you ever have input or questions about ways to support Lylewood, please reach out to any board member anytime you’d like to learn more.   If you don’t already receive periodic emails from us, please consider subscribing to our email list at lylewood.org/subscribe.

In humble Christian service, Lylewood Board of Directors.
